My turn to be like ghost again
Quiet I go I to run in TV snow again
You turn you turn around and I’m alone again

A breakup can hit like a sucker punch, leaving you reeling, staring at the pieces of yourself scattered on the floor. It’s the kind of blow that makes you question who you are, stripping away the layers until you’re nothing but a shadow, a ghost of who you used to be. You float through the days, going through the motions, but you’re not really there. You’ve handed over your power, let someone else hold the reins, and now they’re gone, leaving you adrift. But here’s the thing: no one’s going to save you. You’ve got to stand in front of the mirror and see what’s left.

Dark Synthpop chanteuse Carrellee, out of Madison, WI, deals in dark synths and moody melodies, the kind that slink through the night like a cat on the prowl. Her latest single, Like A Ghost, drips with eerie allure, as her soft, whispering vocals glide over scorched synths and sharp beats. Think Crystal Castles or The Knife after a hard night out, or Ladytron with a little more edge.

Like A Ghost‘s lyrics cut deep, telling the tale of a woman waking up to the cold reality of a relationship gone sour. She’s no longer herself – just a spectre, slipping through the cracks while the person she once knew turns into someone else. But she’s not going down easy. This ghost isn’t here to haunt, she’s here to escape—breaking the chains, pushing back, and walking out the door with her head held high. It’s a song of survival, set to the pulse of heartbreak and hard-won freedom.

“I think the song is like a cry of longing and despair in attempts to connect and show up authentically in the world,” she says. “Each point of contact made to another is so ephemeral, like a ghost. For me it’s a bit of a self-love song too, and reminder to show up for myself each day.”

You don’t stay a ghost unless you let yourself. And that’s the secret—reclaim your power, your strength, your sense of self -before you disappear for good.

Like A Ghost by Carrellee

Carrellee dropped her debut album Scale of Dreams on November 18, 2022, via Negative Gain Productions, and hit the road hard, playing close to 100 shows across the States. She didn’t miss a beat, turning up at the Verboden Festival in Vancouver and sharing stages with acts like Glass Spells, Vision Video, IAMX, and ACTORS.

She’s no stranger to a crowd or a late-night set, and this September, she’ll take the stage at Chicago’s Metro for the Cold Waves Festival, keeping her momentum rolling for her current 30-date US tour: proof that Carrellee is built for the grind. Her music, much like her tour schedule, shows no sign of slowing down—she’s just getting started, and she’s in it for the long haul.
