“My inspiration behind this release stems from my infatuation with Jay-Z’s catalog,” BDX the Don said of his single “Girls, Girls, Girls ’23.”
Using one of the greatest rappers of all time as the basis for a track is a surefire way to create something special, and that’s exactly what the Hyattsville, Maryland native has done with his latest track.
Seeking sonic influence from Jay-Z’s track of the same name from his legendary 2001 album The Blueprint, BDX embodies the soulful but clever nature Hov brought to the original record.
“The Blueprint had a huge impact on me growing up and ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ was one of my favorite songs from that record,” BDX the Don said. “I love how G it was, I loved how soulful it was and how it made you feel…I always wanted to reach the level of cleverness that Jay embodied in the song.”
The Maryland up and comer’s influences don’t stop there; also on the list of artists he is inspired by are 50 Cent, Young Dolph, Freddie Gibbs, the Griselda Records crew and Kendrick Lamar, all of which will be shown on his next album Golden Child.
“The purpose [of Golden Child] is to inspire the idle mind and hopefully put a spark in those who are unmotivated,” BDX said. “A lot of great artists featured, a lot of great production and surprises that add to the already amazing aesthetic of the project.”
Dropping an album isn’t the only thing on the to-do list for BDX the Don. He’s already known for throwing shows in the D.C. area and, as of publication, is planning his next event. There’s also music videos that accompany Golden Child’s rollout, which BDX described as one of the favorite moments of his burgeoning career.
“This year is my year,” he proclaimed. “I can feel it, and it’s never been as strong a feeling as it is right now.”
