The 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards paid a tribute to a local Atlanta favorite, Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def Recordings. Dupri was joined on stage by Ludacris, Nelly, Lil Jon, Da Brat, Chingy, Bow Wow, Bone Crusher, Tyrese, and Dem Franchize Boyz.
There were plenty of great artist in the building for the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards. With performances from City Girls, GloRilla, and Fivio Foreign. Sexyy Red, fresh from her appearance on Drake’s For All The Dogs, ran through her solo hits “Pound Town” and “SkeeYee” and also joined DaBaby for his performance alongside Juvenile and Mannie Fresh.
This year’s BET Hip Hop Award show honored the 50th anniversary of hip-hop Hosted by the legendary Fat Joe.
One artist that attended to witness the celebration was Los Angeles-based female rapper, songwriter, and film producer Helecia Choyce, better known as Rapper SKG. Receiving her plaques for previous work at the Legendary “Death Row Records” and also receiving her plaques for her present work with BLAKDOUT Records, SKG is proving that any artist can re brand themselves while working hard to create a name within the music industry.
SKG watched as GloRilla took the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards to school with the first TV performance of her latest drill track “Cha Cha Cha.”
Dressed in a red track suit, the Memphis star and her backup dancers gave an energetic rendition of the Ganagst Art 2 track, which samples Nas’ 2000 hit “Oochie Wally” and DJ Casper’s Cha-Cha slide.
As Big Glo showed the crowd how to hit the instructional moves mentioned in the song, Fivio Foreign joined her on stage to give an authentic feel to the NY-sound.
Watching in the audience, SKG credited Glorilla as being the new wave for female rappers and setting the stage with a trailblazing performance.
