Rochester, New York’s Slump6s releases his second album, Genesis, fuelling the year’s embracement of explosive rage rap.
The 18-year-old rapper has capitalised off the current generation’s touch for loud, abrasive trap music that focuses on high-energy performances. His new album, titled Genesis, indulges in the sound while including elements of lo-fi and tracks that come in bursts.
When arranging the album, Slump6s focused on creating sonic consistency to create “an experience as a whole”. Commenting on the rage style, Slump6s said it is “the sound that is making the people go crazy – there’s a whole bunch of different takes that has taken a life of its own.” Inspiration derived from rappers XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God, trailblazers of the early SoundCloud wave that also leaned on energetic performances.
Speaking on his personal favourite track “Ten Toes”, Slump6s said the track came from a “close place to home”, particularly compared to the contrastingly-titled “Long Way from Home”. The songs know their purpose, designed especially for live crowds to go ballistic to.
Genesis is out now via Republic Records / Field Trip Recordings. Listen to Slump6s’s Genesis below.
