In a statement delivered to X/Twitter, the official Assassin’s Creed Shadows account wrote “we realize we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features.” The game was initially due to release November 15, 2024.

In a note to investors, Ubisoft wrote the game was “feature complete,” but the “learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title.” Outlaws was criticised by many players and reviewers for its numerous bugs at launch.

“Just cancel it at this point lmao Ubisoft is cooked,” wrote dmvshaban. “Lol your trying to wait until the heat dies down,” claimed MeleeGamesAssassin’s Creed Shadows has been embroiled in the recent series of culture wars surrounding games that some deem “woke” for including diverse characters or themes. A vocal minority criticised Ubisoft for including Yasuke, a Black samurai, as one of the two playable protagonists.

“Just cancel the game. Take the tax write off. Pretend it never happened and try again, this time with respect to Japanese culture and history. 2025 won’t do you any favours,” stated ne0mega, who shared an image of the poster for Ghost of Yōtei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.

“PUSH IT BACK EVEN FURTHER! NOBODY WANTS THIS!” wrote FakePearBear. A lot of the frustration seems to stem from the inclusion of Yasuke, with VTOL_Penguin wrting “first AC set in Japan. Make protagonist a black guy. Biggest miss of the whole game. Nobody wanted this.” The game has two protagonists, and one is Naoe, a Japanese woman.

In other news, reviews of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom have been hugely positive, with only some criticising the game.
