Shōgun went into the ceremony as the most-nominated series in a single year in Emmys history with a total of 25 nods, while The Bear was nominated for 23 awards in total. During the Primetime Emmys ceremony, The Bear would go on to win a further four awards for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Allen White), Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series (Liza Colón-Zayas) and Best Directing for a Comedy Series. With Colón-Zayas’ win, she also became the first-ever Latina to win in the category. With a total of 11 wins at the 2024 Emmys, The Bear is now the most-awarded comedy series in a single year at the awards, breaking its previous record of 10 wins.

Shōgun, however, walked away as the night’s biggest winner, taking home a total of four awards, including Best Drama Series, Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series, Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Best Directing for a Drama Series. With its 18 wins, Shōgun is now the most-awarded series in a single year in Emmys history, as well as the winningest drama series at the Emmys.

The biggest upset of the night went to Hacks, which shockingly beat out fan-favourite The Bear for Best Comedy Series. Baby Reindeer also took home several big awards, including Outstanding Writing in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Outstanding Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Season three of The Bear scored a four-star review from James Mottram, who wrote for NME: “Cracking along with its usual mix of slow-burns and fast-spurts, the balance in season three is just right… Once again, The Bear has come out of the oven baked to perfection; it’s pursuit of excellence puts other shows to shame.”
