Earlier this month, fans of one of Nolan’s most beloved films The Dark Knight came together to celebrate the 16-year anniversary of its release, with many praising it as “the greatest superhero movie” of all time.

“The first comic book film to ever receive major Academy Awards recognition as well as the first comic book film to ever cross the $1B mark at the global box office,” one person posted on X. “The film completely revolutionised the superhero genre & modern day blockbuster filmmaking overall, becoming a massive critical, financial, & cultural phenomenon.

Back in April this year, Nolan had admitted that he was hesitant to make The Dark Knight as he “didn’t want to become a superhero movie director”.

Another of his films, Interstellar, is receiving an IMAX re-release on September 27 to mark its own 10-year anniversary.

Nolan’s most recent release was Oppenheimer, which was the biggest winner at the Oscars and the Baftas this year.

In a five-star review of the film, NME shared: “Not just the definitive account of the man behind the atom bomb, Oppenheimer is a monumental achievement in grown-up filmmaking. For years, Nolan has been perfecting the art of the serious blockbuster – crafting smart, finely-tuned multiplex epics that demand attention; that can’t be watched anywhere other than in a cinema, uninterrupted, without distractions. But this, somehow, feels bigger.”
