Multi-instrumentalist Alex Skye talks debut single and previews next moves

Ojai, California native Alex Skye is on a mission to get her message out for everyone to hear.  A multi-instrumentalist with a passion for pop, R&B and indie folk, Alex cites “powerful” artists such as Carole King, Taylor Swift, Chappell Roan, Etta James and others as primary influences, but there is a familial inspiration that also plays a large role in how her music sounds: Mexican Ranchera music that she inherited from her grandfather.

When speaking of her debut single “Medicine,” only one word comes to mind for the young starlet: catharsis.

“My goal was to tell a story of heartbreak and healing that other people could relate and sing along to,” Alex Skye said.  “The writing and recording process helped me grow so much as an individual who felt lost and betrayed, and through this I gained clarity and strength.  That was important to me.”

“In the end, I write from my experience and the output is an expression of all I feel, love, hate and hope,” Alex continued.  “I aspire to have my music leave an impact on those who listen so they feel seen and heard.”

On tap for the SoCal creator?  Well, she studies professional music and songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston, so she’s already off to a great start.  She’s just dropped a cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” with Berklee’s Studio Band; the royalties from the song go straight to the GroundUp Music Foundation in partnership with #ArtistsForChange.

But wait, there’s more.

“I plan to finish my next EP ‘Points of Origin’ which will be an indie folk acoustic [project] that is an homage to my roots, connecting where and how I grew up to where and how my future is unfolding,” Alex said.

Someone with this much creative drive is sure to accomplish great things in the artistic world.  Let’s just be thankful Alex Skye chose music as her path to get her story out.
