Lenny Kravitz has opened up about his 20-year-long celibacy vow, and Ice-T has described it as “weirdo shit”.
The ‘Fly Away’ singer looked back at a pledge of celibacy he made back in 2005 during a new interview with The Guardian, published Thursday (May 30). In the discussion, he confirmed that he is still going strong when it comes to his vow to abstain from intercourse until he meets his soulmate.
He explained that the promise he made related to his relationship with his father, who he claimed had several affairs, and once told the singer that he would also become a cheater someday.
“He became right,” Kravitz admitted, going on to discuss his former marriage to Lisa Bonet between 1987 and 1993. “After [my] marriage, I became more like him. I was becoming a player … I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be that guy. So I had to tackle that and it took years.”
According to the ‘Again’ musician, he curbed his negative behaviour by making the personal vow and “not letting my own desires take over”.

“[It’s] just a promise I made until I get married,” he told Maxim at the time. “Where I’m at in life, the women have got to come with something else, not just the body, but the mind and spirit.”
In the interview with The Guardian, he confessed that nearly 20 years later, he is still sticking to the vow, and his “spiritual” journey has seen him stay celibate since his last serious relationship nine years ago.
After hearing about the update, however, fellow musician Ice-T has come forward and said that he can’t relate to Kravitz’s life choice, and described the move as “weirdo shit”.
“9yrs without Sex? F that BS. Weirdo shit,” the rapper wrote on X/Twitter after hearing that the singer has been celibate for nearly a decade.
When one of his followers pointed out Kravitz is on “his own journey,” Ice-T responded and honed in on his initial sentiment, writing: “F that Journey.”

The interview came ahead of Kravits gearing up to promote his new album ‘Blue Electric Light’ by embarking on a run of European tour dates. It also arrived ahead of a brief residency he has planned for the Park MGM in Las Vegas later this year. Visit here for remaining tickets to his shows.
As for Ice-T, the rapper recently joined forces with Body Count to announce a 2024 UK and European ‘Merciless’ tour – set to take place this summer.
More recently, he made headlines for hitting out at Keir Starmer, after he fell for a fake online interview with the Labour leader.
