It’s been 20 years since Amy Winehouse released her instantly classic second album Back To Black. In honor of that anniversary, Republic/UMe will reissue the album in a series of special formats on Friday, October 23, including a 3LP clear-vinyl edition, 3CD edition, and digital deluxe edition. The collection brings together four unreleased demos, rare B-sides, and a live performance recorded at Paradiso in Amsterdam during the Back To Black tour.
Winehouse’s February 8, 2007 performance at Paradiso has never previously been released in full on vinyl or streaming. The 3LP and 3CD editions also feature brand-new alternative cover artwork, an image of Winehouse’s handwritten lyrics from Mark Ronson’s archives, never-before-seen photos by original album photographers Mischa Richter and Alex Lake, and new liner notes from producers and friends Ronson and Salaam Remi.
The anniversary collection also includes limited-edition 1LP versions of the original album. These include a “Chalkboard Marble” color-vinyl edition and a webstore-exclusive Zoetrope vinyl featuring moving footage of Winehouse.
“Amy was one of one,” Remi said. “One-of-a-kind artist. One-of-a-kind spirit. One-of-a-kind soul. Experiencing that level of talent, passion, humour, honesty, and love for what she created was a gift.”
For his part, Ronson shared: “It’s crazy that six songs made in a fit of furious musical infatuation would matter so deeply to so many people twenty years later.”
Back To Black, considered Winehouse’s musical masterpiece, was both a critical sensation and major commercial success. In the UK, the album debuted at No. 3 and later reached No. 1 on the Official Albums Chart before going on to be the best-selling album of 2007. In the US, the album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 before peaking at No. 2 following Winehouse’s five-Grammy haul.
At the 2008 ceremony, Winehouse won Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best New Artist, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance with “Rehab.”
In 2025, Back To Black was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry as a “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” work.
