‘Sons Of Anarchy’ cast reunite for new series ‘Legends’ where they play real-life versions of themselves

The cast of Sons Of Anarchy are reuniting for a meta-themed series that sees them play fictional versions of themselves.

Charlie Hunnam, who played lead Jax on the show, has created and developed Legends, a new fictional adventure that sees him star opposite Sons Of Anarchy veterans Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates and Theo Rossi.

According to a report from Deadline, the original series’ creator, Kurt Sutter, is not involved with the project but has given it his blessing.

The show portrays fictional versions of the Sons Of Anarchy cast meeting at a fan convention over a decade after the series’ conclusion. According to the article, “the line between life and art blurs as the fractured brotherhood finds itself up against a real-world threat more dangerous than anything they ever faced in their show.”

The limited series is to be developed by US network FX, with air dates and further casting yet to be announced.

There have been numerous shows over the years where actors portray fictionalised versions of themselves, often for comedic effect. Friends star Matt LeBlanc played himself in the comedy episodes, while Seinfeld producer Larry David created the beloved series Curb Your Enthusiasm based on a heightened version of his reality. Last year, Twilight actor Taylor Lautner announced a new show where he plays himself imagined as a werewolf hunter.

Sons Of Anarchy aired from 2008-2014 and portrayed the trials of an outlaw motorcycle club based in California. Running for seven seasons, it was a ratings hit and was nominated for five Emmys during its run. A spin-off series, Mayans M.C., which ran from 2018 to 2023.

Kurt Sutter had previously discussed plans about a sequel series for Sons Of Anarchy, focusing on Jax’s son, Abel. “I had this revelation between SoA and [follow-up show] Mayans, that the SoA mythology would be four shows. Sons of Anarchy, Mayans M.C., First Nine and Sam Crow” he said on social media during the 2020 Coronavirus lockdown.

First Nine would be a limited series. Nine episodes. It would end before we began to tread on history we created in Sons. Sam Crow would be the fate of Wendi, Nero, Abel and Thomas.”
