DIIV have shared their new single ‘The Fountain’ as they officially announce their new A.G. Cook-produced album ‘ZIRP!’, along with 2026 tour dates.

The shoegaze quartet have unveiled more details of their album ‘ZIRP!’, which is due on October 30 via Fantasy Recordings. Pre-save/pre-order the album here.
Inspired by “Palantir, societal breakdown and streaming’s endless hamster wheel”, the album was produced by A.G Cook (Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek). Cook said he departed from the original brief of “destroying & rebuilding their demos, Screamadelica-style, into a finished product, but that hybrid, half-remix approach felt completely wrong to me.”
Instead, Cook said he became “obsessed with their live sound”, and explained that he “insisted on recording live drums before most of the songs were even finished. We spent a lot of time recording intricate guitar parts with specific guitar pedals, and as little time as possible doing anything on a computer, at least by my standards.
“After a few rounds of that, ZIRP! emerged as a concept, and a sort of utopian, dystopian mantra. For me it became a vehicle to push the band into new territory.”

DIIV will also tour the US later this year, with a few stops plotted for Europe.
They’re set to support Interpol and Basement on select dates, with their headline shows kicking off at The Meadows in Brooklyn on September 29.
They’re also set to play Los Angeles and San Francisco in October, before arriving in Europe for Pitchfork Music Festival Paris and London. They’ll also play a show at Belgium’s Sonic City Festival while across the pond.

‘ZIRP!’ will serve as the follow-up to 2024’s ‘Frog In Boiling Water’, which NME gave a three-star review. “A quiet, undemanding and opaque album, ‘Frog In Boiling Water’ will appeal to a section of shoegaze fans that are keen to surrender to its impressionistic, seemingly-timeless charms. Others may ask themselves: why does it feel a bit like we’re living the same day over and over again?”
We spoke to the band for an In Conversation interview, where they told us about the tough conditions of recording the album. “I think we went into it with these really big ambitions to try to make a different kind of album and really stretch and push ourselves to make something new,” bassist Colin Caulfield told us.
“And I think we just did not anticipate that it would be a really, really big challenge to agree with those new guidelines, or that kind of exploded approach to the band. We were still, in a certain way, in that mode of, ‘Everything’s good,’ and then that’s when things really sneak up. You’re not expecting it. And then resentments build…”
Frontman Zachary Cole Smith added: “Relationships take work and some vigilance. We left making ‘Deceiver’ saying, ‘Let’s do that again!’ And maybe we would have, but being in a band is tough. I think for a lot of people the music just shows up on their phone, and they’re, like, ‘Cool,’ and they’ll listen.
“But there’s not a tonne of transparency about all that goes into making the sausage, there are so many decisions and so much money and time… It’s daunting. You make it on spec, like, ‘I hope people like this,’ and you kind of put all your eggs in that basket. I believe in the record and we all believed in it.”
