The legendary rocker was scheduled to perform in Costa Mesa, California and Louisville, Kentucky in September.

However, she has taken to social media to tell fans that the dates have been cancelled. On Instagram stories, Jett’s team wrote: “Following a recent injury, Joan Jett has undergone orthopaedic surgery on a fractured vertebrae and will begin the necessary healing process.”

The statement adds that Jett made the decision “in close consultation with her doctors”, continuing: “While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing. She’s looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come”.

The news follows on the heels of Joan Jett’s recent UK tour, which marked her first headline tour across the pond in 16 years.

With support from the political UK punk duo The Meffs, Jett played six shows in the UK, including a performance at the brand new venue British Airways ARC, located at Kensington Olympia.

Elsewhere, Thommy Price, drummer with Joan Jett and Billy Idol, has died aged 68. Price played with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts from 1987 until 2017, with Jett paying tribute on social media.

“We lost a member of the Blackheart family, the one of a kind Thommy Price,” she wrote. “Thommy was a legendary drummer who was a Blackheart for four decades. He was a drummer’s drummer and admired by so many. Our hearts are heavy. Sending love to his beautiful family. We love you Thommy.”
