William Shatner has shared a list of outrageous rider demands for his forthcoming appearance at Riot Fest in Chicago.
The Star Trek legend will be appearing at the festival on Sunday September 20, to perform material from his forthcoming metal album alongside his band The *uckers. Ahead of the performance, the actor shared an extensive list of rider demands on his Instagram account.
Among the items that must be provided by the city of Chicago are a boat renamed after him (so that he can captain a ship again), the opportunity to sing ‘Take Me Out To The Ball Game’ at a Chicago baseball game, and an appearance on local TV co-anchoring the weather.
As for the festival itself, the performance must have an intro video created by GWAR, “fire breathers. Many of them”, and a DeLorean to transport him to the stage instead of a gold cart. Backstage, the demands get wilder.
His dressing room must be themed as “Shatner’s Shag Shack”, and must contain four feet of Polish sausage, eight pallets of the drink Faygo, an assortment of adoptable puppies, and a Montreal Canadiens hockey sweater signed by actor John Stamos. You can read the full list below.
Shatner said in a statement (via Consequence): “I’ve always believed that music, like space, is about exploration,” says William Shatner. “Riot Fest is exactly the kind of place where anything can happen. We’re bringing volume, intensity, and a few surprises. I can’t wait to share this experience with the fans.”
Riot Fest founder co-founder Mike “Riot Mike” Petryshyn added: “After years of persistently — and perhaps annoyingly — writing letters to William Shatner about performing at Riot Fest, it appears that he was finally compelled. I for one cannot wait to see Shatner get heavy. But that Shatner Rider… wasn’t expecting that today.”
Despite his advancing years, the 95-year-old has continued to enjoy a busy working schedule, which included becoming the oldest person to go into space as part of the Blue Origin rocket flight in 2021. He also appeared at the Saturn Awards last February of this year to receive their lifetime achievement award, where he spoke about his affinity for space exploration. Last September, the sci-fi icon was rushed to hospital to be treated for a medical emergency.
