All Episodes Available on The Binge Today
Sony Music Entertainment today announced the premiere of The Poet, a new investigative true crime podcast that unravels one of the strangest and most unsettling criminal cases in Wichita history. Hosted by award-winning journalist Rachel Browne, the six-part series follows the decades-old mystery of Ruth Finley, a beloved wife and mother who became the target of a relentless stalker during the height of the BTK killer’s reign of terror. Subscribers to The Binge can listen to all episodes today.
In 1977, as fear spreads across Wichita because of the notorious BTK serial killer, Ruth Finley begins receiving threatening phone calls from a stranger claiming to know a secret from her past. What starts as harassment quickly escalates into stalking, disturbing poems delivered to her home, violent attacks, and a years-long investigation that becomes one of the most expensive and infamous manhunts in the city’s history. As the harassment escalates, police are forced to consider a chilling possibility that the person responsible for the threatening poems and attacks may be BTK himself.
The Poet traces the twists and turns of the case through extensive reporting, archival materials, and exclusive interviews into the investigation that gripped Wichita for years. As detectives chase leads and criminal profilers search for answers, the mystery takes an astonishing turn that forces investigators to question everything they thought they knew. What begins as the hunt for a dangerous serial killer becomes a deeply human story about trauma, memory, and the hidden ways the mind attempts to protect itself.
“When I first heard about Ruth Finley’s story, I was struck by the important questions it raises—not only about crime and justice, but about the human mind and the stories we tell ourselves,” said host Rachel Browne. “This is a case that kept an entire city on edge and kept investigators on their toes for years. And the deeper we dug, the more complicated and surprising the story became.”
The Poet is hosted by award-winning investigative journalist, Rachel Browne. The series is produced by Pippa Johnstone and executive produced by Chris Kelly of New Metric Media and Courtney Dobbins of Muse Entertainment. The podcast is also executive produced by Catherine Saint Louis and Jonathan Hirsch of Sony Music Entertainment.
