SUEN has released her second EP, “Girlfriend,” a six-track collection that dives deep into the emotional landscape of modern romance. Where her debut introduced her cool, restrained sonic identity, “Girlfriend” pushes further — tracing the full arc of feeling from the first flutter of infatuation to the slow chill of something falling apart.

SUEN herself describes the EP as capturing emotions before they’ve even been given a name: the cooling temperature of the heart, an inexplicable sense of unease, the complex pull between anticipation and disappointment. It’s music that lives in the in-between — obsession and detachment, longing and indifference — all filtered through her signature stylish, understated delivery.

The title track, ‘Girlfriend’ featuring Ravi, is the EP’s centrepiece and its most direct statement. Built on a smooth, seductive groove, the song flips between confidence and vulnerability — a narrator who wants to be chosen, who knows what she wants, but is slowly piecing together that something isn’t right. The lyrics move from playful desire (“I could be your girlfriend / You should be my boyfriend”) to a sharp, unsettling turn in the bridge, where a smell out of place and a lighter that shouldn’t exist say everything the other person won’t. It’s a breakup song written before the breakup has been admitted.

Ravi’s feature adds a second dimension to the track, deepening the push-and-pull dynamic that runs through the whole EP.

With “Girlfriend,” SUEN cements herself as an artist with a precise emotional vision — unafraid to sit with discomfort, and skilled at making it sound beautiful.
