Halo: Campaign Evolved is a “modern evolution” of the original Halo game that has been “thoughtfully brought to life” in Unreal Engine 5 with new 4K visuals, updated animations and re-recorded voice lines. Halo Studios is also bringing in “a roster of beloved weapons and vehicles from later Halo titles, and adding three new bonus campaign missions, all designed to expand and celebrate the adventure that started it all.”

“The original Halo: Combat Evolved is a stalwart of gaming history, a cultural icon that helped define the first-person shooter experience. For Halo Studios, bottling the impact of that original campaign and all of its special moments is the ultimate goal – for new players and long-time fans alike,” said Halo Studios in a statement.

Campaign Evolved will also feature a remastered version of the original soundtrack, which combined sweeping orchestral cues with marching military snares, prog-rock percussion, and Gregorian Monk chants. Halo Studios has released an extended six-hour version of Halo: Campaign Evolved’s ‘Main Menu Theme’ ahead of the game’s launch next month (July 26).

However the remake won’t feature the brilliant PvP multiplayer. “We’re not trying to replace what is a masterpiece in the original,” said executive producer Damon Conn in an interview with Windows Central. “We’re trying to basically make something that stands kind of shoulder to shoulder with it, using new tools, new energy, to get a little bit of a fresh take on some things, but honouring the legacy.”

Earlier this week, original Halo composer and voice director Marty O’Donnell confirmed that he had a “short” conversation about Tom Cruise taking on the role of Master Chief for Halo 2 but it didn’t work out. “I knew that would have ruined everything,” he explained. “I know game fans are not necessarily blown away by big stars, they’re blown away by solid gameplay and emotionally compelling stories.” The soundtracks for the first three Halo games have also been re-released on vinyl

In other news, Nicolas Cage is joining Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone as part of their upcoming summer of action season.
