Solo Artist EVAN Releases Debut Single “RIDE OR DIE”

Solo artist EVAN has released his debut single, “RIDE OR DIE,” on June 22. This marks his first step forward after branching out from the group ENHYPEN.

EVAN, who also produced the single, uses the idiom “Ride or Die”—meaning to stay together until the very end—to define his future direction. Through the title track of the same name, ‘Ride or Die,’ and the B-side track ‘Overflow,’ he fully captures his current emotions, aiming to resonate deeply with music fans.

EVAN took the lead in writing and composing both tracks, which feature contrasting atmospheres. His creative prowess shines through as he harmoniously blends various genres and crafts music designed to evoke different emotions depending on the listener’s situation. He also participated in the overall visual creative process—including the music video and concept photos—infusing the project with his own distinct style.

The title track, ‘Ride or Die,’ is an alternative rock song. Built on a pop-rock foundation with added hyperpop elements, it instantly grabs the listener’s attention. It features intense electric guitar riffs, driving drum beats, and a raw-textured melody layered with experimental sounds.

In the song, EVAN sings about a yearning for love and emotions that have spiraled uncontrollably. It is more than just a simple love song; beneath his sharp vocals lies a sincere message addressed to his fans. This is why the song’s intimate emotions are conveyed with such multidimensional depth.

The music video explores the concept of a “bond built on trust” from a unique perspective. While passersby indifferently brush past Evan, a car—bearing the visible marks of time—persistently follows him. It depicts two entities that refuse to abandon one another, held together by unwavering faith despite being battered and broken. The moment he finally gets into the car, the way people look at him shifts. What follows is a thrilling combination of Evan’s newfound confidence and the music’s explosive energy.

‘Overflow’ is an easy-listening indie pop track with a calm, soothing atmosphere. It musically captures the sensation of complex emotions welling up inside and spilling over like a glass filled to the brim. The song’s appeal lies in the blend of gritty Lo-fi sound textures and sophisticated guitar riffs, over which Evan’s emotive vocals flow effortlessly.

When overwhelmed by emotions that are difficult to endure, people often struggle to escape them. Yet, certain worries have a way of pulling us right back to where we started. Evan sings softly, “Here we go again,” acknowledging that the cycle of emptying and refilling that overflowing glass is simply part of the continuity of life. “Overflow” can serve as a warm, comforting letter to some, while acting as an amplifier of poignant sorrow for others. It leaves a lingering resonance, offering ample space for the listener’s own emotions to seep in. Like a gentle ripple, it quietly foreshadows the musical world Evan will unfold in the future.
