For the past twenty years, the God Of War franchise has followed Kratos’ journey through Greek and Norse mythology. During Sony’s State Of Play on Tuesday night (June 2) though, game developers Sony Santa Monica unveiled the next chapter in the God Of War story – Laufey.
God Of War: Laufey follows Kratos’ wife through the afterlife of the gods following her death at the start of the 2018 God Of War reboot.
“Faye has always been a formidable warrior in our story. She and Kratos can both hit hard and take hits, so one of our top priorities throughout the development has been handcrafting a uniquely fresh feel for Faye’s gameplay that will also meet the high expectations fans have for the series,” explains a press release. “Combining the movement and fluidity of the Greek era with the Norse era’s approach to world-building and close ties with characters — we’ve crafted an experience that has given our team incredible opportunities to take exciting creative swings, while staying true to the pillars of the God Of War series.”
However the announcement was met with backlash from so many gamers, major brands started getting involved. “God Of War game with no Kratos = Pepperoni Passion with no pepperoni,” wrote the Domino’s X account.

“While [God Of War: Laufey] is a different thing, it’s still part of the larger tapestry of what we truly want to explore [with] all these different characters in there,” explained studio boss Cory Barlog in an interview. “But there’s always going to be Kratos games throughout the whole history.” Sony Santa Monica also took to X to explain that “Kratos is [still] the God Of War,” and they have “many more stories to tell with him.”
“For now, we’re excited to take fans on a journey into the afterlife of the gods with Faye and hope you’ll come along for the ride,” they added. A release date for God Of War: Laufey is still to be announced.
In other news, Nintendo has announced their latest collaboration with footwear company Crocs – a range of Super Mario inspired clogs.
