‘Euphoria’ actor Chloe Cherry explains why some actors don’t like working with creator Sam Levinson

Euphoria star Chloe Cherry has delved into why she feels some actors don’t like working with series creator Sam Levinson.

The Zendaya-led show has become a big hit for HBO, with the third and final season currently airing. However, during the show’s run, there have been rumours of controversy surrounding Levinson, in particular some cast members expressing discomfort at the level of nudity in the show.

Cast member Colman Domingo has played down the claims, saying in 2023: “I think things get blown out of proportion”, while calling Levinson “one of the kindest, open-hearted director-writer-producers that you could ever ask for. There’s just noise because it’s popular and it’s in the zeitgeist.”

However, there have also been rumours of a feud between Levinson and Zendaya, with an investigation by The Hollywood Reporter last claiming the actor had “cooled” on the director, with Levinson alleged to “resent” her for moving away from their friendship.

Neither party have commented publicly on the claims, but now Chloe Cherry, who plays Faye Valentine on the show, has weighed in on the director’s reputation.

During an interview with Glamour, the actor expressed how much she enjoyed working with Levinson, but was then asked why she thinks some actors may not. “I think it’s because he is so specific about how everything needs to be,” she replied. “And there’s some people that I guess just don’t like how he’s so specific with how he imagines everything in the show. I just think that I’m a particular actor that just likes how Sam Levinson directs.”

She continued: “I like the fact that on set he’ll randomly change his mind and be like: ‘Wait, no, let’s do this. This would be crazy. Actually, we have a new idea!’ I like that. I like how he’s so sure of everything that the characters wear and say, but I guess some people I find that to be too much.”

Recently, fans became divided over a shock death in one of the most recent episodes, with some welcoming the twist, while others criticised the level of violence.
