Netflix has made some noticeable changes to the way in which users can navigate through their catalogue of films and TV shows.
The changes have been most noticeable on the web version of the service, which is accessible through desktop and laptop computers. Previously, there had been a drop down menu to sort through titles alphabetically, and by date of release. Now, according to a report from What’s On Netflix, those options have disappeared, making the titles more difficult to navigate.
It’s part of a larger change in the way the world’s most popular streaming service functions, with many alterations coming in the last few months. The company recently overhauled the interface of its TV app, while AI has been incorporated into the search option, and TikTok style short form video (such as clips or trailers for releases) have been added to the mobile app.

Viewers have reacted negatively on X (formerly Twitter), with one user writing: “This is dumb. Netflix acts like people start the app never having heard of any movies or shows before and are desperate to be told what to watch.” A reply to that post added: “Also, the [recommendations algorithm] is kinda bad bcz all I see is the same set of shows and movies recommended on the home page again n again, even if I’ve already watched many of them.”
Despite reports of a record increase in subscriptions, Netflix have battled numerous accusations surrounding its practices in recent months. In March, company bosses denied they’re dumbing down plots so that phone users can follow, after comments made by Matt Damon.
The company also faced a ruling in Italy where they may have to pay back subscribers due to price rises being deemed illegal in the country’s courts. Netflix have expressed their intention to appeal the decision.
