‘Severance’ season three is coming sooner than you think, says Adam Scott

Severance actor Adam Scott has said they plan to release the next season of the show “much sooner” than last time around.

The hit Apple TV show, which follows employees at the fictional Lumon Industries whose work and personal memories are ‘severed’ from each other, notably had a three-year gap between its first two seasons, with the second premiering last year.

However, Scott has addressed plans for its third season release, telling Deadline at the BAFTA TV Awards last night (May 10): “We’re always trying to shorten the amount of time between seasons, but it’s more important for it to be great than for it to be fast.

“But yeah, we’re definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long.”

He further teased that the new episodes will begin filming “very soon”, though didn’t elaborate on the upcoming storylines, adding: “The only thing about telling more is it would be a bummer.”

Earlier this year, it was confirmed that Apple had bought Severance production company Fifth Season for $70million ($51.43million), with the show expected to run for at least four seasons. The deal means the streamer has greater control of the show over the long-term, including potential future spin-offs.

Last year, show creator Dan Erickson also revealed that he knows how the series will end – but isn’t sure how they will get there yet.

“We have some idea of how we’re getting there, but we definitely like to be open to playing jazz a little bit and changing things as we go along, falling in love with characters that we didn’t necessarily expect to fall in love with, and incorporating them into the story in new ways,” he told IndieWire. “I think it is possible to over plan, but we know where we’re going at the end of the day.”

In NME‘s five-star review of season two, we said: “This 10-episode run confirms Severance as one of the smartest and most original shows on television right now.”
