Mission: Impossible star Ving Rhames was rushed to hospital on Wednesday (April 29) after suffering a medical emergency in a restaurant in Los Angeles.
The veteran actor was eating with his family when he reportedly collapsed and fell in and out of consciousness, before emergency services were called, according to TMZ. A rep for the actor told the outlet that the star became “overheated” and was being treated in hospital.
A spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department told Entertainment Weekly that paramedics were called to treat “a 66-year-old male for an unconfirmed medical condition,” and that they “assessed, treated, and transported” him to a medical facility.
A rep for the actor later told EW: “I spoke to Mr. Rhames via phone shorty after and since then and he sounded like everyday Ving. He made a humorous remark.”
Starting his career in the mid-’80s, Ving Rhames is known for playing gangster Marcellus Wallace in Pulp Fiction, as well as the films Out Of Sight, Con Air, and Disney animation Lilo & Stitch. In 1998 he won a Golden Globe for playing boxing promoter Don King in a TV movie about his life, memorably giving the award away to fellow nominee Jack Lemmon.
However, he is best known for the part of hacker Luther Stickell in the Mission: Impossible franchise, appearing in every movie since the 1996 original – the only cast member other than Tom Cruise to do so.
The most recent movie, Mission Impossible – Final Reckoning, saw Stickell’s character killed off, however, in a heroic effort saving Ethan Hunt’s (Cruise) life.
The movie has been billed as the last in the series, although Rhames’ co-star Cruise has no plans to slow down. Last year, he told The Hollywood Reporter: “I’m going to make (movies) into my 100s. I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”
