The original Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag was released back in 2013. The hit game takes place during the golden age of piracy, with players following Welsh pirate Edward Kenway as he hunts down the mythical Observatory and deals with both the Assassins and the Templars. The open-world game was praised for its seamless sea travel, naval combat and engaging narrative, selling more than 11million copies.

After years of rumours about a remake, Ubisoft’s Jean Guesdon officially confirmed the Resynced remake project last month. “Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.’ Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon,” he wrote in a blog post about the future of the franchise, alongside a screenshot of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced.

According to Inside Gaming, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced was supposed to be officially unveiled last week (April 16) but Ubisoft delayed the reveal. However, Inside Gaming reportedly saw the announcement presentation which confirms the remake will launch July 9, 2026.

The presentation reportedly also debunks rumours that the Black Flag remake will rework the classic game into a role-playing title. “This remains a solo adventure and character-driven experience. It is not an RPG.”

Ubisoft have refused to comment on the leak and they’ve given no reason for delaying the reveal, so the release details for Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced could change.

Guesdon has also teased more information about the Netflix adaptation of Assassin’s Creed is due “soon”. Video game developers Ubisoft have said they’re going to be heavily involved in the adaptation to “deliver an experience that speaks to the heart of what fans love about Assassin’s Creed, while introducing its unforgettable worlds and timeless themes to new audiences worldwide.” However Euphoria‘s Toby Wallace will be leading the show as a character not seen in any of the video games.

In other news, the long-awaited Call Of Duty movie adaptation has a release date with fans having to wait until 2028 to watch the blockbuster.
