Christina Applegate in hospital amid ongoing battle with Multiple Sclerosis

Christina Applegate has reportedly been admitted to hospital amid ongoing health struggles

Sources close to the actor told TMZ that the actor had been in hospital since late March. The exact reason is not yet known, although the article notes that in her recent memoir, You With The Sad Eyes, she said that living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) means she is prone to infection, leading to regular hospital visits.

She was diagnosed with the condition in 2021, and she hosts a podcast, MeSsy, with fellow actor Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who has lived with MS for over 20 years.

Applegate’s representative told the website: “I have no comment whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are. She’s had a long history of complicated medical conditions that she has been refreshingly open about, as evidenced in her memoir and on her podcast.”

Applegate is best known for her work in comedy, having played newsreader Veronica Corningstone in the 2004 hit Anchorman and its sequel. She also won an Emmy for her guest work on the sitcom Friends, and starred in the series Samantha Who and Dead To Me. She stepped away from appearing on screen following her MS diagnosis, revealing in 2023 that she is “probably not going to work on-camera again”.

She would appear on stage at the 2024 Emmys to present an award, prompting a standing ovation. “You don’t have to applaud me every time I do something,” she joked in response. The same year, she would speak candidly about her life on her podcast, saying that the symptoms of MS can lead to mental health struggles. “I don’t enjoy living, I don’t enjoy it,” she revealed. “I don’t enjoy things anymore.”

Last month, Applegate appeared on The View and revealed that Will Ferrell and director Adam McKay took money from their own salaries to pay her for Anchorman, after the studio’s offer was so “offensive”.
