The former Migos rapper, whose real name is Kiari Kendrell Cephus, was shot in a valet area outside the Seminole Hard Rock hotel and casino on Monday (April 6). He sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the shooting.
Now, he’s told fans he’s been released and is focusing on “recovery”. He shared the news in a personal statement on Friday (April 10), thanking fans for their well-wishes and support.
“I’m good…. but I’m planning to be better,” Offset said in a handwritten letter posted to Instagram. “I’m focused on my family, my recovery, and getting back to the music,” he added.
“Realizing that life is made up of quiet wins and loud losses… Life’s a gamble and I’m still playing to win.”
Local police have not formally charged anyone with the shooting; however, fellow rapper Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the incident, per Rolling Stone.
Merritt was detained at the scene and charged with disorderly conduct, and released from custody that same day, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, has said that online speculation suggesting Merritt had further involvement in the shooting is “false” and “baseless rumours.”
“Lil Tjay been [not] charged with any shooting,” Florio said in a statement. “Any reporting to the contrary is false,” Florio continued. “We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting.”
The Seminole Police Department has said an investigation is ongoing.
It comes just over three years after late Migos member Takeoff was shot dead outside a Houston bowling alley. The late rapper, real name Kirsnick Khari Ball, died aged 28 on November 1 in 2022 when he was shot dead in an alleged dice game gone wrong in Houston, Texas.
Patrick Clark was later charged with his murder and is set to go on trial in November, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Offset was previously married to Cardi B after they started dating in 2017 and secretly married in September that same year. They made their relationship public the following month.
In the summer of 2024, Cardi B announced that she had filed for divorce from the rapper.
