The original Pokémon Red & Blue games were released in February 1996 and The Pokémon Company is pulling out all the stops for its 30th anniversary. As well as bringing classic GameBoy Advance games FireRed & LeafGreen to the Nintendo Switch, brand new cosy title Pokopia launched in March (and became the best-reviewed Pokémon game of all time) while free-to-play battle game Champions will be released later this month.

London’s Natural History Museum is currently hosting a Pokémon store pop-up and LEGO has released a series of Pokémon models – with more on the way later this year. There’s also a planned 30th anniversary trading card set.

Now two new collaborations have been confirmed.  Pokémon has teamed up with Puma for a series of themed trainers. Fans can get hold of a limited edition Pikachu-inspired RS-X trainer, the Bulbasaur-themed Rider FV, the Charmander Slipstream INVDR or the Squirtle Suede Classic. Mimikyu features on the limited edition Inverse trainer, Espeon on the Mostro, while Umbreon and Pikachu both feature on the Fade.

A range of t-shirts, hoodies and accessories is also available to buy in Puma stores but the trainer sold out in a matter of minutes on the Pokémon Centre store, with many items appearing on eBay at inflated prices.

Coffee brand Grind is also celebrating 30 years of Pokémon with special edition tins featuring Eevee, Pikachu or Mew alongside a limited-edition reusable cup, t-shirt and cap. Grind’s ready-to-drink iced coffee tins have also been given a temporary makeover with the Iced Caramel Latte flavour now featuring Pikachu while Iced Oat Vanilla Latte showcases Eevee. You can shop the Grind X Pokémon collection here.

Ed Sheeran recently revealed he turned down a Fortnite collaboration because he doesn’t play the hit game, but was inspired to reach out to Pokémon instead. The call resulted in his 2022 single ‘Celestial’, which was used at the end of Scarlet & Violet.

In other news, Resident Evil Requiem shared a special video for April Fool’s Day that saw Leon and Graces’ voice actors swapping roles, which has blown up online.
