Sophie Turner injured on set while filming ‘Tomb Raider’ stunt

Filming on the new Tomb Raider TV series has been delayed due to star Sophie Turner sustaining an injury.

The adaptation of the hit video game stars the Game Of Thrones actor as Lara Croft, a globe-trotting adventurer in search of ancient artefacts. Turner leads a cast that includes Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs, with the show being written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. No release date has been confirmed, but it is expected to arrive in 2027. It is not clear whether this new injury will delay that release.

The Sun had reported that the star had injured her back on set, and that filming could be delayed by up to six months. While neither the nature of the injury nor recovery time have been confirmed, an Amazon spokesperson told Variety: “Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”

Turner will be the third person to play Lara Croft in live-action, following three big-screen adaptations of the Tomb Raider franchise. Angelina Jolie played the role in the 2001 action blockbuster Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, as well as its 2003 sequel The Cradle Of Life. Alicia Vikander would take over the part in a 2018 reboot, titled simply Tomb Raider.

The character became a sex symbol in the 1990s and 2000s, but in February of this year Turner said her version will not follow that path. “It’s about her and her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies,” she said. “But I really want to show the other side. She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.”
