Paul McCartney has shared his “must-see spots” for anyone visiting his hometown of Liverpool.

The discussion comes in light of the Beatles icon announcing his first new album in five years, ‘The Boys Of Dungeon Lane’, which is set for release on May 29.

Described as his “most introspective album to date”, the record will see the singer-songwriter reveal memories that he’s never shared before from his formative years in Liverpool, and find him “in a candid, vulnerable and deeply reflective mood, writing with rare openness about his childhood in post-war Liverpool”.

His 19th solo album was also announced with the stripped-back single ‘Days We Left Behind’, which documents the pre-fame days of “smoky bars and cheap guitars” in the UK city.

Since it was shared, McCartney has been asked by PaulMcCartney.com about specific locations that mean a lot to him in Liverpool, and places that he would recommend to people as a “must-see spot”.

The first place he named was “Forthlin Road, the house I ended up”, as well as the “Liverpool Institute, which is now LIPA”.

As for what else he’d show people if he were to give them a personal tour, he said: “I show them the site of the first gig we ever played, called the Wilson Hall in Garston. And then I show them everything in between. Where John’s mum used to live, where John used to live, where George used to live, and where Ringo lived.”

To celebrate the album announcement, last weekend saw McCartney play a two-night stint at 1,200-capacity venue the Fonda Theatre. The gigs were his first since wrapping his ‘Got Back Tour’, and allegedly saw Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, John Mayer, Stevie Nicks, Margot Robbie, Billie Eilish and Ringo Starr in attendance.

After trying to share images of the phone-free shows online, McCartney was hit with a temporary ban on Reddit.

News of his new album comes following McCartney celebrating his time in Wings by publishing the book The Story Of A Band On The Run last year, ahead of an anthology collection album and the acclaimed documentary Man On The Runwhich NME described as painting him as ”goofy and a little corny, but always endearingly himself”.

As for The Beatles, the band’s ‘Anthology’ was celebrated last year with a new book, an expanded album, and the legendary documentary series expanded to nine episodes.

Filming also continues on Sam Mendes’ four Beatles biopics, starring Paul Mescal as McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr. They are slated for release in 2028.
