Wonpil of DAY6 Releases First Mini-Album “Unpiltered”

DAY6’s Wonpil has made his return as a solo artist after approximately four years, with the release of his first mini-album, “Unpiltered” on March 30.

Having debuted as a member of DAY6 in September 2015, Wonpil has consistently participated in the songwriting process for every album, building a rich discography and carving out a distinct path as an emotive singer-songwriter through his delicate vocal timbre and instrumental prowess.

After showcasing his musical sensibilities with his first solo album, “Pilmography,” in February 2022, he now presents an “archive of emotions” through his latest release “Unpiltered”—his first new work in about four years.

Throughout his career, the music Wonpil has penned using gentle, affectionate words has reached listeners with a palpable warmth. His new solo album focuses on carefully gathering and presenting various moments from Wonpil’s life.

Emotional shifts do not always flow in an orderly fashion; rather than attempting to contrive or embellish them, he sought to capture his inner self and personal narrative exactly as they are. Consequently, the tracks on this album feature the raw, unfiltered emotions he experienced precisely at the moment he was creating them. He embeds the very essence of these feelings into his lyrics and melodies, thereby expanding the musical spectrum to encompass the diverse array of emotions that can coexist within a single being.

The title track of this first mini-album, ‘Highs and Lows,’ captures the desperate plea of a soul barely holding on—crying out, “Save me!”—while on the verge of collapse under the weight of an enduring, undiminishing heartache. The track opens with an emotive guitar melody that builds into an explosive band sound filled with intense, rising energy; this dynamic instrumentation intertwines with Wonpil’s deeply resonant high notes to deliver a truly dramatic and captivating auditory experience.

“Unpiltered” features a total of seven tracks including; ‘Toxic Love,’ ‘Already Grown Up,’ ‘Up All Night,’ ‘Step by Step,’ ‘Hold My Love,’ and ‘Piano.’ Wonpil participated in both the lyrics and composition of every song on the new album, thereby enhancing the clarity and distinctiveness of the record.

This spring, Wonpil conveys through melody the emotions he has carefully cultivated over time, along with the mature perspective he has discovered within the flow of his music.
