In the ever-evolving landscape of Italian synthwave, Sun’s Spectrum has once again captured our attention. With Livio Caenazzo’s guitar strumming and vocal cords at the helm, and Daniele Iannacone’s deft fingers dancing over keyboards and programming, this dynamic duo has dropped their latest creation: Pain Is Just a Noise, a hypnotic techno tour-de-force and homage to the fury of industrial.
Sun’s Spectrum’s latest release stands out for its exploration of these heavy themes, presented through a blend of darkwave, industrial, and techno elements. The song artfully navigates the complex terrain of feeling trapped by circumstances, symbolized by the relentless ticking of a clock, indicating the unyielding pressure of time.
A central theme is intense emotional turmoil, depicted through vivid metaphors that convey a sense of overwhelming stress and inner rage that struggles to keep pace with a racing heart. Interestingly, the song touches upon the concept of pain being an almost untrustworthy sensation, perceived as mere background noise, indicating a deep disconnect with one’s emotional reality. Themes of vulnerability and deterioration align with the struggle to stay connected to reality, as opposed to getting lost in dreams or idealistic escapism.
Mold Records, under the direction of Sergio Cinghiale, has concocted a delightful anachronism: imagine, if you will, a Soviet-era X-Factor, replete with the pre-fall USSR’s kitschy charm. Here, Sun’s Spectrum winks at us, both critiquing the West’s talent show mania and playfully skewering our outdated, often caricatured perceptions of the USSR. It’s a clever, double-edged satire wrapped in a visually arresting package, and just the kind of irony we need in these strange times. Part Orwell, part Hunger Games, with a few cheesy Boney M moments strewn about, this dark visual extravaganza will have you hitting that golden buzzer fast.

Sun’s Spectrum, from Udine, Italy, blends reverb-heavy darkwave, industrial, and Detroit techno elements. Their music is characterized by distorted synths, melancholic melodies, and deep techno beats. The duo debuted with It Was Like Autumn, Elevate, and Just A Destiny, followed by their first 6-track EP in January 2019 and the single Fade to Grey. In 2020, they contributed to She Past Away’s 10th anniversary remix album X. February 2021 saw the release of their LP Don’t Chase the Light on Final Muzik and Mold Records.
In March 2023, after participating in the ZEITGEIST Vol. 2 compilation by Cold Transmission Music, Sun’s Spectrum signed with them for the release of their new full-length album, The Silence After the Fall (2023).
