Acquisition of Nordic dance label One Seven Music follows 14 years working collaboratively in joint venture
One Seven Music co-founder, Janus Barnewitz, takes on Sony Music Denmark Managing Director role with immediate effect
Copenhagen, March 24th 2026 – Sony Music has appointed Janus Barnewitz as the new Managing Director of Sony Music Denmark, succeeding Henrik Daldorph who leaves the company after more than 20 years at the helm. The appointment was announced alongside confirmation that Sony Music has acquired 100% of Copenhagen‑based label One Seven Music, including its publishing arm, marking a strategic expansion of the company’s footprint in the global electronic and dance music landscape.
Founded in 2018 by Janus Barnewitz and Morten Vilhelm, One Seven Music rapidly evolved into a key player on the global dance scene, earning a reputation for excellence in talent scouting and artist development. The acquisition of One Seven Music goes hand-in-hand with Sony Music’s leadership transition in Denmark. Barnewitz assumes the role of Managing Director, whilst One Seven Music co-founder, Morten Vilhelm, will continue to lead and expand the growth of the label under the Sony Music Denmark umbrella, focusing on creative strategy and overseeing the roster of artists.
As Managing Director, Barnewitz will report to Sony Music President of Continental Europe and Africa, Daniel Lieberberg, and oversee Sony Music Denmark’s overall strategy, A&R and creative development, and collaborate closely with global teams to strengthen the company’s position in the country.
His proven track record in talent‑scouting, brand‑building, and navigating the evolving digital music ecosystem positions him as a strong and future‑focused leader. In his role as Managing Director of disco:wax and No3 (companies bought by Sony Music Denmark in 2012 and 2018), he played a pivotal role in discovering and developing some of Denmark’s most successful domestic artists. His work with Gilli (MXIII), The Minds of 99, and Martin Jensen contributed to major national and international career breakthroughs. Under his leadership, disco:wax and No3 became a central force in the Scandinavian market, achieving a 10% market share in Denmark.
“Janus is one of the most forward‑thinking and culturally intuitive executives in the Danish music landscape,” said Daniel Lieberberg, President of Continental Europe & Africa at Sony Music. “His ability to identify talent early and set up artists for long term success makes him the ideal leader for Sony Music Denmark. I am excited to see how he will help shape the next chapter of our strategy in the region.”
In a message about his outgoing Managing Director, Henrik Daldorph, Lieberberg added: “We want to extend our profound gratitude to Henrik Daldorph for his extraordinary contributions and leadership over the past 20 years. His vision, commitment, and strategic guidance have shaped Sony Music Denmark’s identity and success, laying the foundation for the company’s next phase. We wish him well for the future.”
Managing Director of Sony Music Denmark, Janus Barnewitz, added: “I’m excited about the future of Sony Music Denmark and the opportunities ahead. With the additional creative power of One Seven, we’re well positioned to drive growth, support our artists, and shape the next chapter of Danish music together.”
