FKA Twigs sues band The Twigs over trademark claims and “demand” for “seven-figure payout”

FKA Twigs has filed a lawsuit against indie band The Twigs over a dispute with a trademark and a “demand” to have a “seven-figure payout”.

FKA Twigs, real name Tahliah Barnett, has accused the band fronted by twin sisters Laura and Linda Good of issuing multiple cease-and-desist letters relating to the trademark connected to her stage name.

She claims that the group have known about her career under the FKA Twigs alias since 2013, and reached out to her around that time about the “likelihood of confusion” between her name and the band’s name.

According to Rolling Stone, court documents outline that Barnett offered the duo $15,000 to allow their musical entities to “co-exist”, but was turned down by the group, who instead “declined and stressed that they did not consent to this proposed co-existence”.

In 2024, according to the filing, the band allegedly issued cease-and-desist letters to Barnett in an attempt to “weaponize these barred and unmeritorious trademark claims”. The lawsuit also adds that they “threaten[ed] litigation, including threats to enjoin Barnett’s use of her mark, in order to disrupt Barnett’s decade-long, uninterrupted use of the FKA Twigs mark for Defendants’ own gain”.

The lawsuit also states that it is “inconceivable” that people would confuse the two artists – saying that FKA Twigs has gone on to reach 3.2million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 300 million views on YouTube, while the band have “simply disappeared” and have just “705 followers on Instagram and 25 monthly listeners on Spotify”.

“The parties operate in entirely different commercial ecosystems,” it read, also accusing The Twigs of having “threatened to seek an injunction preventing Barnett from using her stage name, [and] demanded a significant seven-figure payout to release any alleged claims against Barnett.”

Barnett has requested a trial jury to address the rights relating to the FKA Twigs trademark. Neither The Twigs nor FKA Twigs have responded to request for comment.

FKA Twigs released the ‘EUSEXUA’ album last year, which was given a glowing five-star review by NME, while the song ‘Room Of Fools’ landed at Number 25 on our 50 best songs of 2025 list.

Since then, she has also shared the follow-up album ‘EUSEXUA Afterglow’, which earned four stars from NME.
