A new Family Guy spin-off series, Stewie, is currently in the works, it has been announced.
According to Deadline, Fox and Hulu have given a two-season order for the animated comedy, which will follow Peter and Lois Griffin’s evil genius baby son. The series is set to see Stewie attend preschool and explore time and space travel.
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is said to be on board as an executive producer, and will continue to voice Stewie. He created the spin-off with longtime Family Guy writer and producer Kirker Butler.
“I’d like to thank Fox for this incredible opportunity, and I’m excited to start pretending I’m collaborating closely with them on the show,” MacFarlane said in a statement.
Butler added: “I am honoured and humbled that Seth, 20th Television Animation and Fox have trusted me with one of the most iconic animated characters in the history of television.
“I have known Seth for more than two decades, worked with him on half a dozen projects, and I am hopeful this is the one where he finally learns my name.”

A synopsis reads: “In the offshoot, after getting the boot from his old preschool, Stewie is forced to enrol in a new one that’s not exactly top-of-the-line. It’s attended by a handful of kids he doesn’t know, and a 75-year-old class turtle with a half-cocked theory on just about every subject.
“Stewie’s miserable, the other kids are miserable, and even the turtle is miserable… until Stewie begins rolling out his trusty array of devices to take them anywhere in space and time, turning every boring day at school into an insane and surreal adventure.”
Stewie is slated to premiere on Fox during the 2027-28 season, and will stream the next day via Hulu and globally on Disney+. The episode count for the show has not yet been confirmed.
The series marks the second Family Guy spin-off, following the 2009’s The Cleveland Show, which ran on Fox for four seasons. Butler worked with MacFarlane on both Family Guy and The Cleveland Show.
Stewie is due to join Fox’s slate of long-running 20th Television Animation series, comprising MacFarlane’s Family Guy and American Dad!, as well as The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers.
The Griffin baby was previously the focus of a spin-off, straight-to-video film, 2005’s Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story. Fox also aired the movie as a three-part finale for Family Guy season four in 2006.
Family Guy is currently in its 24th season. In 2024, MacFarlane said he didn’t see “a good reason” to end the series. Despite voicing multiple characters, MacFarlane no longer writes or contributes creatively to the show.
MacFarlane also created the US comedy series Ted, based on his 2012 film of the same name and its 2015 sequel.
