After her breakout role as Julia Salinger in ‘90s teen drama Party Of Five, Neve Campbell went on to star as Sidney Prescott in 1996’s slasher Scream and five of the six sequels that followed. She also played Bonnie Harper in 1996’s The Craft, Suze Toller in 1998 thriller Wild Things and Sarah in crime drama Panic.
In a new interview with Buzzfeed, Campbell was asked about the roles she’s turned down.
“I turned down Lara Croft. I was also offered Pearl Harbour. I kicked ass at that audition. I learned Japanese and I got the part… but I couldn’t do it. There’s a lot [I turned down] but you make the choices you make,” she explained. “Certain ones I wasn’t available for as well, because I was so busy. Party Of Five took up ten months of my year for six years. Listen, I’m grateful for everything that I’ve had.”
Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in 2001’s Tomb Raider adaptation and returned for 2003 sequel The Cradle Of Life before Alicia Vikander starred in the 2018 reboot.
Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner is set to play Lara Croft in the upcoming Amazon Prime Video series. “I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” Turner said in a statement. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe [Waller-Bridge] at the helm, we are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
Earlier this year, Turned revealed that her Lara Croft won’t be a “sex bombshell”. Instead the show is about “her story and what drives her, rather than what so many people also love about her, which is how hot she is in the games and the movies,” Turner said. “But I really want to show the other side. She’s so unashamedly capable. She is not a woman who hides her strengths at all.”
Tomb Raider fans can expect a full remake of the original game to launch later this year while brand new adventure Tomb Raider: Catalyst will launch in 2027.
In other news, protesters descended on yesterday’s (February 25) premiere for Scream 7, calling for the film to be boycotted over the firing of former star Melissa Barrera for her pro-Palestine social media posts.
