Released in 2003 and taking heavy inspiration from Grand Theft Auto, The Simpsons Hit & Run is widely regarded as the greatest ever Simpsons video game and has sold over 3million copies. Work on a sequel began shortly after launch but the project was ultimately scrapped.

In 2021, The Simpsons co-showrunner Matt Selman admitted that a Hit & Run remake would be a “complicated corporate octopus” but he would “love” for it to happen while lead game designer Joe McGinn has also expressed interest in revisiting the game.

Earlier this week, original developers Radical Entertainment returned as New Radical Games after shutting down in 2013. The studio “specialises in remastering classic games” and their new website features a lot of nods to The Simpsons Hit & Run, with many fans convinced a remake is in the works.

Suddenly out of the blue, Radical Entertainment has returned under the name, New Radical Games with them highlighting The Simpsons Hit and Run at various points.

Taking to X, one fan explained that following the shutdown of mobile game Tapped Out and the massive The Simpsons x Fortnite crossover, the license for The Simpsons has likely reverted back to Disney after being owned by EA, which would make that “complicated corporate octopus” around a Hit & Run remake a lot easier to navigate. Other fans have speculated that The Simpsons Hit & Run artwork used on the website is different from the original art.

“This would be the greatest remaster ever,” wrote one fan on X. “Dear New Radical Games, please remaster your legendary game The Simpsons Hit & Run, if you do, fans will buy it instantly and it will be better than Grand Theft Auto 6,” added another. “I’m practically begging you,” said a third.

According to a 2025 report, a remake of Radical Entertainment’s 2009 sci-fi adventure game Prototype is in the works with the relaunch of New Radical supporting those claims.

In other news, the team behind Call Of Duty has denied a spin-off version of hit game mode Zombies is in the works.
