Released back in 2004, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are updated takes on the original 1996 Red & Blue games – introducing a number of audio and graphic improvements as well as a new post-game area, the Sevii Islands.

Last week, two leakers reported that the games would finally be coming to the Nintendo Switch as part of the franchise’s 30th anniversary celebrations – but many fans assumed it wouldn’t be confirmed until the Pokémon Day Presents stream, which is set to take place next Friday (February 27).

However it’s now been officially revealed that Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen are set to launch on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 next Friday from 2pm GMT.

“Pokémon Red & Green, the first titles in the Pokémon series, were originally released in Japan on Tuesday, February 27, 1996. This is an important day marking the start of the Pokémon brand, which was born from these two video games! This day has been celebrated as Pokémon Day by fans as well,” reads a statement. “FireRed & LeafGreen will release on Nintendo Switch as download-exclusive titles. This software will be available to play after the conclusion of the Pokémon Presents presentation.”

According to a listing on the eShop, the games will cost £16.99 each.

To celebrate the news, the soundtrack to FireRed & LeafGreen is also available to stream via Nintendo Music with 43 tracks available.
