Reneé Rapp Recruits Megan Thee Stallion For ‘Mean Girls’ Track ‘Not My Fault’

Reneé Rapp has recruited Megan Thee Stallion for a new song entitled “Not My Fault,” which serves as the first single from the official soundtrack for the upcoming Mean Girls movie. In the film, Rapp will be reprising her debut Broadway role of Regina George. The Mean Girls soundtrack is set for release via Interscope Records on Friday, January 12 alongside the film’s theatrical premiere.

On the song, Reneé and Megan take a snippet of dialog from the original film to give the track its narrative thrust: “It’s not your fault that you’re in love with me.” The electro-pop banger is equal parts icy and infectious.

Based on the 2018 Broadway musical adaptation of the 2004 film, the Mean Girls soundtrack will feature songs from a number of the movie’s stars including Rapp as Regina George, Angourie Rice as Cady Heron, Auli’i Cravalho as Janis ‘Imi’ike, Avantika as Karen Shetty, and more. The first teaser from the film was shown during the Taylor Swift concert film earlier this year, followed by the studio’s official online trailer reveal, which you can check out here.

“Not My Fault” arrives to cap off an explosive year for Rapp. Her debut album Snow Angel earned the largest first-week sales for a female artist’s debut album, and her star-studded sold-out Snow Hard Feelings Tour was a massive hit.

The run of dates included stops in all major cities including New York, Los Angeles, and Atlanta while boasting surprise appearances from Bryson Tiller, Lizzy McAlpine, Kesha, and more. Recently, Rapp released the deluxe version of Snow Angel, featuring four new songs including a remix of standout track “Tummy Hurts” featuring Coco Jones. Snow Angel was noted as one of the best albums of 2023 by Billboard and the “Tummy Hurts” (Remix) with Coco Jones was noted one of the best songs of the year by Rolling Stone.
