HBO Max confirms UK launch – with ‘The Pitt’ finally landing a premiere date

HBO Max has finally confirmed a UK and Ireland launch date, with the service set to debut on this side of the pond next month.

The streamer has already been available in the US and over 110 territories globally, though has dodged the UK and Ireland for many years, with viewers there only able to access HBO shows through the likes of Sky and NOW.

However, it has now been announced that viewers in the UK and Ireland will finally be able to get use to the service – which includes content from HBO, Warner Bros. and DC – from March 26.

Acclaimed medical series The Pitt, which has so far been unavailable to stream anywhere in the UK, will debut with the launch, dropping its first season while the ongoing second will drop episodes weekly.

Subscribers will also be able to watch HBO and Warner Bros. shows such as Succession, Game Of Thrones, The Sopranos and Friends, as well as films such as One Battle After Another, Sinners, Superman, and the Harry Potter and Lord Of The Rings movies. It will also be the exclusive home of upcoming shows such as the Lanterns and the Harry Potter series.

TNT Sports subscriptions will also be available through HBO Max, which includes coverage of the Premier League, Emirates FA Cup, Adobe Women’s FA Cup and UEFA Champions League among others. However, TNT Sports will also still be available via existing partners.

HBO Max will be offered with five plans – Basic with Ads for £4.99 per month, which can stream on two devices at Full HD; Standard with Ads at £5.99 per month, also on two devices with Full HD – but will access to 30 downloads; Standard at £9.99 per month, the same as the tier below but without ads; and Premium at £14.99 per month, which allows streaming on four devices with 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Atmos and 100 downloads.

The TNT Sports plan is £30.99 per month, which can be bought as a standalone plan, and in addition to select entertainment plans.

“Launching HBO Max in the UK & Ireland marks a significant moment for viewers here,” said Andrew Georgiou, President & Managing Director for Warner Bros. Discovery UK & Ireland and Warner Bros. Discovery Sports Europe.

“HBO Max will offer them their most loved series and movies from HBO, Warner Bros. and DC Studios, alongside premium sports from TNT Sports in the UK, within an outstanding single destination for this great content and strong value proposition. Nowhere else will you be able to get The Pitt, House of the Dragon, Euphoria, Lanterns, Superman, One Battle After Another, as well as the eagerly awaited Harry Potter series, all together.”
