German Post-Punk Vet Ruebi Debuts “Dazzling” — Spring Tour Dates Announced!

German artist Ruebi doesn’t rush the room; he takes his time and lets it come to him. This alone distinguishes him from the post-punk nostalgia merchants who are constantly chasing their own pasts. Years of working and touring in the music scene have shown him what endurance truly means—when it no longer seeks to impress. His solo projects distill this understanding to the core: economy, intention, and nerve.

Ruebi’s path has already been crowded with motion. Early years behind drum kits in Germany’s new-wave circuit. A long stretch on the road with Pink Turns Blue, playing cities until they blurred into one another. Time spent in London, absorbing other angles, other tempos. When the pandemic forced a pause, it also cracked something open. He stepped away from the band and toward autonomy, choosing a slower pace and sharper focus.

Now based in Hamburg, working part-time and building toward an inclusive musicians’ collective, Ruebi sounds unconcerned with relevance metrics. That detachment works in his favour. Dazzling feels unpressured, self-possessed, alert. It carries traces of The Cure, Siouxsie, Lebanon Hanover, Nina Hagen, Fehlfarben, Ideal, Depeche Mode, Killing Joke, Laibach – but only as residue, not rehearsal.

Dazzling, his latest offering, opens without ceremony. A clean guitar figure hangs in place, deliberate, almost conversational. Synths slide in sideways, cool-toned and controlled, less spectacle than suggestion. The rhythm keeps its balance, light on its feet, never stomping for attention. Beneath it all, the bass moves with purpose; melodic, patient, doing the work of both anchor and guide.

Ruebi’s voice enters without theatricality. It’s steady, direct, and unforced. The lyrics carry a dual awareness: private thoughts shaped by a public world, without collapsing into confession or commentary. The song leaves space for listeners to project, to inhabit, to carry something of their own into the frame, while the meaning itself stays elastic. Separating the track from polite indie pop is its sense of judgment. Guitars flare briefly, then retreat. Synth lines drift past, never lingering too long. The beat holds its form with quiet confidence.

Dazzling is the kind of track that slips into your day, shifts the air slightly, and moves on…job done.
