Roblox has revealed their new generative AI game creation tool with a short clip that looks suspiciously like a knock-off take on Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The 4D generation tool is powered by Roblox’s own Cube Foundation Model and allows users to create interactive worlds and 3D objects using a text prompt. “In our research lab, we are building ‘real-time dreaming’ – the ability to generate fully playable video worlds prompted from any text or image,” Roblox explained in a blog post.

They also shared a short clip of their AI tool in action, with a user creating a game from the prompt “woman in a glowing cave”. They then request a sword and a dragon attack. From there, video games about “a penguin on a glacier” and “Aztec warrior flying a Quetzalcoatl with floating islands” are generated from short prompts.

However the video has been mocked online. “Why has it just made Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” asked one X user. “Great, another Expedition 33 slander post, how origi… wait a damn minute, that’s Maelle in flying waters. The jumping animation is literally the same too,” replied another. “Everything AI is building is stealing work that is already done. It is not able to create anything other than slop,” said a third fan.

actively posting and pushing your ai generated game that is quite clearly literally just stolen from the most popular game of the year with extremely specific and unique visuals is crazy work https://t.co/aqULzNTxR3

Others have pointed out the similarities between the AI game world and Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora while some fans have criticised the questionable graphics. “I’m curious about why they made it look like a badly animated PS2 game,” wrote one X user.

Roblox also revealed that they’re currently training AI NPCs from 13 billion hours of player data but haven’t shared what their ‘real-time dreaming’ tool has been trained on.

Last week, Google launched Project Gemini, which is able to create short, interactive worlds from a text prompt. Users paying $124.99 a month were quick to create knock-off versions of The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Mario and Grand Theft Auto.

Elon Musk is also working on AI game creation with his studio xAI. In 2024 he said the tool would “make games great again” and, after spending time developing controversial Twitter chatbot Grok, has promised a “great AI-generated game” before the end of 2026.

Earlier this week, Grand Theft Auto boss Strauss Zelnick reassured fans that Grand Theft Auto 6 wouldn’t feature any generative AI. Gamers have also praised the “anti-AI” trailer for Chappell Roan’s Fortnite collab.
