Speaking during an earnings call last night (February 3), Take-Two bosses tried to bolster confidence after stock prices tumbled following the reveal of Google’s Project Gemini, a generative AI tool that allows users to create “knock off” versions of The Legend Of Zelda, Mario and Grand Theft Auto games.
“Our execution throughout [the 2025-2026 financial year] has been extraordinary and we are highly confident as we approach [the 2026-2027 financial year] –– which promises to be groundbreaking for Take-Two and the entire entertainment industry – led by the November 19 release of Grand Theft Auto 6 with Rockstar’s launch marketing set to begin this summer,” the company said in a statement.
“We are very fortunate that the consumer anticipation for GTA 6 is huge,” added Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick. “And one does have to be judicious with how one markets such an extraordinary product. Rest assured, I think you’ll be pretty astonished by the creativity that Rockstar’s marketing team brings to consumers in the coming months.”
Speaking to IGN, Zelnick said he felt “very good” about the November release for Grand Theft Auto 6 despite fan speculation that the hit game could be delayed for a third time. “Any time you’re getting closer to marketing beats, you’re obviously in a place where your confidence level is as high as it can be.”
Zelnick also hit back at rumours that the physical release of Grand Theft Auto 6 would be delayed to 2027 to avoid leaks. “That’s not the plan,” he told Variety.
Developers Rockstar recently fired a number of staff after accusing them of sharing confidential information with the public and back in 2022, a British teenager was arrested for hacking Rockstar and leaking over one hours worth of development footage for Grand Theft Auto 6. According to a report, “crazy” fans have used drones and fake ID badges to try and get insider information about the long-awaited follow-up to GTA 5.
Take-Two didn’t comment on reports that Grand Theft Auto 6 could be banned in Russia over the inclusion of male strippers.
