The song in question is ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over’ from his critically acclaimed studio album, ‘Grace’.

Shared back in 1994, the record marked the only full studio album from the singer-songwriter, before he tragically died in 1997 of accidental drowning. He was aged 30.

The track, while becoming a huge hit with fans over the years, wasn’t released as a single from the record. However, thanks to it getting a new lease of life on social media, it has found its way onto the charts for the first time in the 32 years since its release.

It is currently sitting at Number 97 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week.

The most popular song on the album, and one that helped put Buckely on the map, was the haunting cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’, but even that didn’t make it onto the Hot 100 charts. It did, however, top the Billboard Hot Digital Songs in 2008.

While it is hard to narrow down the exact time that ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over’ started getting more traction, it does appear to have happened gradually since the rollout of the It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley documentary last year. The documentary followed the life, career and huge legacy left behind by the artist, and the title makes a nod to the lyrics in ‘Lover, You Should’ve Come Over’.

Jeff Buckley isn’t the only artist to have a track from over two decades ago start to get momentum again thanks to TikTok. Last year, it was confirmed that Radiohead’s ‘Let Down’ had become their fourth US hit, 28 years after it was first released.

The track came out as a promotional single in 1997 and later appeared on ‘OK Computer’ that same year. Thanks to it getting a new wave of fans in recent months, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 in August.

Later, frontman Thom Yorke looked back at the new surge in popularity for the song, and said that he found it “bizarre” to see it climbing up the charts again thanks to fans online.

As for Jeff Buckley, It’s Never Over, Jeff Buckley was released in cinemas across the US in August, and became available on streaming service HBO Max later in the year. It premiered at Sundance at the start of 2025 to rave reviews, and currently sits at a 98 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

NME’s four-star review of the film described the movie as “celebratory not sad”, calling it “a well-rounded portrait of the legend that should appeal to both long-term Buckley devotees and newcomers alike”.

It will be released in select cinemas around the UK on February 13, and you can check out the trailer here.
