Perlman was paid “$40 and a sandwich” to narrate the original Fallout, which was released back in 1997. He returned for its 1998 sequel as well as 2008’s Fallout 3, 2010’s spin-off New Vegas and 2018’s Fallout 76.

And now the Fallout legend has appeared in the live-action adaptation, voicing the super mutant that rescues Walton Goggin’s The Ghoul in episode six.

In an interview with GQ, Perlman revealed that he had been waiting for a role in Fallout since the adaptation was first announced. “I kept looking at my phone like ‘Where’s my fucking call? How come no one’s calling me from Fallout, motherfucker’. Little did I know they were trying to come up with a character that had enough gravitas to make it worth my while.”

“[Showrunner] Geneva Robertson-Dworet and [executive producers] Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are some of the fucking smartest, coolest motherfuckers in the game,” he continued. “They came up with a character – they might hate me for saying this – but a character who feels kind of like you’re finally meeting Colonel Kurtz. In this post-apocalyptic world, I’m one of the remnants of the dust heap upon which civilisation is trying to rebuild itself.”

He went on to confirm that he had not been approached about returning for the upcoming sequel Fallout 5. Franchise boss Todd Howard recently confirmed the long-awaited video game will be inspired by the live-action adaptation but won’t launch until after The Elder Scrolls 6, which is rumoured to release in 2028.

However Amazon’s Fallout website is counting down to a big announcement – with many fans expecting remasters of New Vegas or Fallout 3 to be confirmed after the season two finale airs. The streamer has also confirmed plans for a reality competition set within the iconic Fallout vaults.

In other news, Silent Hill 2 composer Akira Yamaoka has shared his soundtrack for movie adaptation Return To Silent Hill.
