The musician and actress earned her first Oscar nomination last year for her role as Glinda, going up for Best Supporting Actress for the first instalment of the musical movie. She would eventually lose to Zoe Saldaña for her role in Emilia Pérez.
Today, it was revealed the sequel failed to snag any nominations at all – a steep loss from the movie’s two wins from its 10 nominations last year.
In response, fans have expressed their shock at Grande leaving empty-handed. One fan pointed out that Grande and Erivo opened the ceremony with a medley last year, writing: “So the Oscars use Ariana Grande for clout and attention last year to get their highest ratings of the decade just to pay her dust I’m so sick”.
Another user called the Academy “fucking loserrssssss [sic]” for failing to nominate Grande or lead actress Cynthia Erivo, while another declared that the awards were “RIGGED”, adding: “She gave the best supporting performance of the year”.
Other fans wrote about their surprise at the movie failing to receive any nominations, with one user writing: “NOT EVEN COSTUME MAKEUP OR EFFECTS? OH MY GOD…”

I have too much feeling about all of this. What is it like for people like Paul Mescal and Ariana Grande, to spend an actual year being told you’re getting an Oscar nomination…and not get it?

NME reviewed Wicked: For Good when it dropped, giving it three stars and writing: “The one truly showstopping moment is Elphaba and Glinda’s climactic rendition of ‘For Good’, a big, blustery show tune that sums up their entire relationship.
“Wicked: For Good doesn’t defy gravity like its predecessor but fans will want to hold space for a sequel with a very poignant payoff.”
Meanwhile, Grande and Erivo have been nominated for their rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’ at this year’s BRIT Awards.
The duo will go up against Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi, Lola Young, Olivia Dean, RAYE, Sam Fender and more to win Song of the Year – see here for a full list of nominees.
Elsewhere, ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ will be revived with Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande at the helm.
