Grand Theft Auto 6 developers Rockstar North have been forced to shut down their offices following a “major explosion”.

According to Scottish Fire And Rescue services, they were called out to the Edinburgh headquarters of Rockstar North in the early hours of this morning (January 19) following reports of a “major explosion” reportedly caused by a faulty boiler (via EdinburghLive).
“I can confirm that we got a call at 5.02am this morning,” said a Scottish Fire And Rescue spokesperson. “We mobilised three pumps and four of our specialist appliances. It’s an ongoing incident and we’re still in attendance at the moment with other agencies.”
It’s reported that no one was injured in the incident, but the building may have suffered structural damage, with police cordoning off the area. NME has reached out for comment.
Developers at Rockstar North are currently working on Grand Theft Auto 6 which is due to launch November 19 2026 after several delays. It was announced the launch was pushed back to give developers more time to “polish” the release. However one recent report claims the game still isn’t finished, with levels and missions still being added.
However Elon Musk and Fortnite boss Tim Sweeney have both claimed that generative AI will be able to create a version of GTA 6 before the official game is released.
