On January 15, rock band ChRockitkal (Lee Siyeon, Lee Junyoung, Je Gwanwoo, and Lee Wonseok) has official debuted with their first full album We break, you awake.
Dreamcatcher’s main vocalist Siyeon has launched a new musical venture with the debut of rock band ChRocktikal. The group’s name draws from three distinct elements: the clarity of “Chrome,” the energy of “Rock,” and the Korean word “KAL (칼)” meaning knife, which represents determination and a straightforward attitude.
The debut album showcases ChRocktikal’s bold musical identity through 11 tracks that blend powerful rock foundations with diverse genre experimentation. Members Siyeon and Wonseok took the helm as producers, while all members contributed to the songwriting process, crafting a distinctive sound that sets the group apart.
The album opens with “Intro: CRTK” before launching into the title track “PEACE,” which explores themes of hidden authenticity beneath peaceful facades. The lyrics, penned by Siyeon, delve into relationships where neither superiority nor genuine emotion can remain concealed any longer.
Other standout tracks include “Victor,” a metal rock piece featuring aggressive twin pedal drumming that tells the story of a being who sought love but faced rejection. “KALish” plays with contrasts, where smooth-flowing sounds suddenly sharpen into something that pierces the senses like a blade.
“RIDE” captures the raw emotion of taking leaps, experiencing failure, and finding the courage to rise again, delivered through analog rock sounds and real amp textures. Meanwhile, “Flight (非行)” offers refreshing comfort while encouraging listeners to confidently face judgment and live authentically.
The album receives support from fellow rocker, DAY6’s Dowoon who co-composed “My Us” and “Masterpiece.” “My Us” presents an honest reflection on protecting one’s younger self and accepting past choices, while “Masterpiece” contemplates how shared moments become treasured memories over time, much like art that gains value with age.
“All in on me” adds a disco beat to the band’s rock sound, exploring the blurred boundaries of attraction and desire. The emotional journey continues with “Iris,” named after the flower that blooms only after rain, symbolizing the hardships that lead to growth. The album closes with “Free!”, an anthem celebrating resilience and the strength to move forward despite wounds and uncertainties.
With We break, you awake, ChRocktikal establishes themselves as a new force in the rock scene, offering listeners a journey through intense emotions, self-reflection, and ultimate liberation through 11 tracks of uncompromising musical expression.
