Sunday night (January 11) saw the Golden Globes kick off the film and TV industry’s awards season, bringing the Oscars race into sharp focus with the first awards ceremony of the season. Host Nikki Glaser returned for the second year in a row, joking that the Globes were, “without a doubt, the most important thing that’s happening in the world right now”.

Adolescence, The Pitt and The Studio nabbed major wins on the television side, and One Battle After Another was among the big film winners at the 83rd annual awards, which saw the Leonardo DiCaprio-led film take home four awards, including the Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role award for Teyana Taylor.

Timothée Chalamet was named Best Lead Male Actor in a comedy for ping-pong epic Marty Supreme, beating out DiCaprio and George Clooney, while Rose Byrne won the Globe in an upset in the Best Female Actor in a Comedy category for the anxiety-inducing If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

Largely fictionalised William Shakespeare historical drama Hamnet won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture in Drama, while Jessie Buckley took the Best Female Actor in a Lead Role in a Motion Picture globe in the drama category.
