The character was a corporate mascot for the Duff beer brand who dressed as a superhero and was known for his enthusiastic promotion of the brand, as well as his catchphrase “Oh yeah!” However, in the latest episode of season 37, Seperance, it appears he has hung up his cape for good.
The episode is a parody of the Apple TV+ show Severance, Duffman (real name Barry Duffman) appears as an employee of Enthusiasm on Demand (EOD), a company that employs stealth advertising.
Addressing his former job, he explains: “The Duff Corporation has retired that character forever. All the old forms of advertising are now passé. Corporate spokesmen, print ads, TV spots. Today’s kids can’t even sing the jingles.” The character does not return to his old role at the end of the episode, suggesting he is retired for good.

The episode features a guest appearance from Severance star Zach Cherry, who plays Dylan George on the show, as well as Oscar-winning actor Julianne Moore.
The Simpsons recently passed its 800th episode, and shows no signs of slowing down. As well as closing in on its 40th anniversary, a second Simpsons Movie has been announced for 2027, two decades after the first film.
Duffman isn’t the only long-running character to have departed the show recently. Alice Glick, the church organist in the show, was killed off recently after 35 seasons, being shown keeling over during a sermon by Reverend Lovejoy.
Executive producer Tim Long has confirmed that Glick has officially exited the series in a statement to People. “In a sense, Alice the organist will live forever, through the beautiful music she made,” he said. “But in another, more important sense, yep she’s dead as a doornail.”
