The actor recently spoke to BBC News about his new A24 film Marty Supreme, where he was asked which British figures would be worthy of a Marty Supreme jacket.
The star has partnered with clothing brand Nahmias to design merch inspired by the film, including a branded jacket he’s sent to celebrities he considers to be “great” (via Pause). He has been wearing some of the pieces out on the press tour.
Chalamet named Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton, Victoria and David Beckham, and underground rapper Fakemink as his British picks. He then name-checked Susan Boyle, saying: “She dreamt big – she dreamt bigger than all of us.”
The actor was referring to the Scottish singer’s 2009 performance of ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ from Les Misérables on Britain’s Got Talent. “Who wasn’t moved by that?” Chalamet added.
“I remember that like it was yesterday. That was like the advent of YouTube, you know.”
Boyle was the runner-up in the third season of BGT, with street dance troupe Diversity taking the win. She rose to huge global fame after competing in the reality talent show, and is reported to have sold 25million records.
Now, Boyle has received the jacket. “Thanks so much for the kind words once again Timothée,” she told BBC News, sharing a photo of her wearing the merch. “All the very best for the film, looking forward to seeing it on Boxing Day and thanks for the jacket, it fits like a glove!”

“Lewis Hamilton, Victoria and David… who else, man? Fakemink. Susan Boyle—’cause she dreamt bigger than all of us.” pic.twitter.com/jrRqCmOXUy

After receiving the shoutout from Chalamet, Boyle responded by sharing a message on social media. “This has been so incredibly touching to read,” she wrote. “I’m very flattered, @tchalamet.”
She continued: “Those early days were quite something, and to know that moment meant something to you all these years on truly humbles me.
“We all start somewhere, with a dream and a bit of hope, don’t we? We should all dream big! I wish you every success as you continue to dream your own dream. Thank you for your kindness and for remembering that moment so fondly. With love, Susan.”
Marty Supreme received a glowing five-star review from NME. “The direction is so frenetic that it somehow makes table tennis even more thrilling than the rubber-burning race scenes in F1, while there are at least three jaw-dropping set-pieces that Safdie lands on you like gleefully delivered trick shots,” wrote Jordan Bassett.
“This is a story about living a great life, however you may define that. It is a film about living fully and without fear, a cynicism-free zone where, for all their fast-talking, people love each other so much it makes your heart feel like it’s about to burst. Talk about a smash.”
In other news, EsDeeKid and Chalamet have put rumours that they were the same person to bed with a new collab.
As for Boyle, over the summer, she responded to Oasis dedicating ‘Stand By Me’ to her at one of their Live ’25 shows in Edinburgh. “You’ve made this old girl’s day,” she said.
